                    ( b) 2 4 8 6 3 Q Step 1: 62 > 25. So, divide 62 by 25. 25 × 2 = 50 is the
                            25 6 2 1 5 7 5 maximum possible product < 62.
                              – 5 0 Subtract 50 from 62 and bring down 1.

                                 1 2 1 Step 2: 121 is the new partial dividend. Here, 25 × 4 =
                              – 1 0 0 100 is the maximum possible product < 121.
                                   2 1 5 Subtract 100 from 121 and bring down 5.
                                 – 2 0 0 Step 3: 215 is the new partial dividend. Here, 25 × 8 =

                                     1 5 7 200 is the maximum possible product < 215.
                                   – 1 5 0 Subtract 200 from 215 and bring down 7.
                                          7 5 Step 4: 157 is the new partial dividend. Here, 25 × 6 = 150
                                        – 7 5 < 157.
                                             0 R Subtract 150 from 157 and bring down 5.
                                                       Step 5: 75 is the new partial dividend. Here, 25 × 3 =
                                                                75 = 75.

Subtract 75 from 75. Nothing is left and no
number is left to bring down.
                            Checking: Thus, Quotient = 24,863 and Remainder = 0.
                            Quotient × Divisor + Remainder = Dividend
                            24,863 × 25 + 0 = 6,21,575 + 0 = 6,21,575. The division is correct.

example 3: Divide the following and check your answer.
                    ( a) 26,736 ÷ 125 (b) 3,03,683 ÷ 260

              Solution: 2 1 3 Q Step 1: Divide 267 by 125. 125 × 2 = 250 is the maximum

                    ( a) 125 2 6 7 3 6 possible product < 267. Subtract 250 from 267
                             – 2 5 0 and bring down 3.
                                  1 7 3 Step 2: 173 is the new partial dividend. Here, 125 × 1 = 125
                               – 1 2 5 is the maximum possible product < 173.

                                    4 8 6 Subtract 125 from 173 and bring down 6.
                                 – 3 7 5 Step 3: Now, 486 is the new partial dividend. Here, 125 × 3
                                    1 1 1 R = 375 is the maximum possible product < 486.

                                                              Subtract 375 from 486.

Step 4: 111 is left which is less than 125 and nothing is
                                                              left to bring down.
                         Checking:
                                                    Thus, Quotient = 213 and Remainder = 111.
                         Quotient × Divisor + Remainder = Dividend
                         213 × 125 + 111 = 26,736

                              26,625 + 111 = 26,736
                                      26,736 = 26,736. The division is correct.
