Step 3. Now, subtract the hundreds.

                         7 – 2 = 5 hundreds Get it right!
                              H t O H T O H T O

                                   8 13 7 15
                              7 9 3 4 8 5 4 8 5
                          – 2 4 6 – 2 1 9 7 – 2 1 9 3
                                                                                                         2 6 6
                                                                                       2 7 4
                              5 4 7
                         Thus, 793 – 246 = 547
              regrouping hundreds

We know that 1 hundred = 10 tens
So, we borrow 1 hundred from the hundreds place when there are not sufficient

tens to subtract at the tens place.
Let us understand it through an example.

              example 2: Find: 428 – 182.
              Solution:

Step 1. Subtract the ones. Step 2. Subtract the tens.

                          8 – 2 = 6 ones Since, 8 < 2, so regroup.
                                                                      4 hundreds + 2 tens
                               H t O
                                                                               = 3 hundreds + 12 tens

                                4 2 8 12 – 8 = 4 tens
                            – 1 8 2 H t O
                                          6 3 12

                                                                          4 2 8
                                                                      – 1 8 2

                                                                               4 6
               Step 3. Subtract the hundreds.

                          3 – 1 = 2 hundreds Think and Answer

3 12 1. Tens into ones 2. Hundreds into tens
                               4 2 8 H T O H T O
                           – 1 8 2

                               2 4 6 – 7 5 6 – 4 2 8
                                                                                                2
                                                                                                       5
                                                                       5 2
                         Thus, 428 – 182 = 246
