Expanded form of a number means expressing the given number as the sum of the place
value of its each digit.
example: th H t O
4 5 8 9
9 ones = 9 × 1 = 9 Expanded form of 4589 is
8 tens = 8 × 10 = 80 4000 + 500 + 80 + 9.
5 hundreds = 5 × 100 = 500
4 thousands = 4 × 1000 = 4000
short Form
When we write a number using digits (0, 1, 2, 3, ..., 9), keeping in mind its place value,
the number is said to be in short form.
example: 7000 + 500 + 80 + 4 = 7 × 1000 + 5 × 100 + 8 × 10 + 4 × 1
= 7 thousands + 5 hundreds + 8 tens + 4 ones 7584 = 7000 + 500 + 80 + 4
= 7584 Short Expanded
