              Objective: To form 4-digit numbers using place value cards.

              materials required:  Sheets of coloured papers, coloured pencils, a scale
                                       and a pair of scissors

                     Š Divide the class into groups of 4 students
                      each.

                     Š The teacher will distribute one set of place value cards, that is, thousands, hundreds,
                      tens and ones cards to each group.

                     Š The teacher will also provide a set of number cards written from 0 to 9 to each
                      group.

                     Š Each student of a group will choose a number card from the given set.

                     Š They will form all the possible 4-digit numbers using the digits on their chosen
                      cards by arranging them under the place value cards.

                     Š The teacher may ask  some questions to the students when she/he will move

                      around.
                    (a) Write the numbers in words and in their expanded form.


                   (b)  What are the place and face values of a particular digit in the number formed.
                   (c) How many numbers are odd or even in the group of numbers formed.

                   (d)  Represent the greatest or the smallest 4-digit number formed on the abacus.
