              Symmetry

              Look at the butterfly shown below.










                This butterfly has open wings.                       Here it has folded its wings.
                                                                     We can see that both the wings match.


              We can say that the butterfly is symmetrical because both its halves are exactly same.
              A figure is said to be symmetrical if it can be folded on imaginary line to form two equal
              halves which exactly fit on each other. This imaginary line is called the line of symmetry.

              Look at the following objects or figures.











              All these figures are symmetrical. The dotted lines show the lines of symmetry.

              The figure which  does not pose this  property,  that is,  if  it  does not  have a line  of
              symmetry, is called an asymmetrical figure.

              Look at the following figures.








              These figures do not have line of symmetry. So, these are asymmetrical figures.
