                                   Learning by Doing




              Objective: To reinforce the concept of forming 5-digit numbers and
              their comparisons.
              Materials required:  Number  cards  of  digits  0 to  9 digits  and  a
                                        notebook.

              Procedure:
                     Š Divide the class into teams of 4-5 students.

                     Š Spread some set of well-shuffled number cards upside down on the table.

                     Š Any two teams (team A and team B) will be called at a time.

                     Š The members of team A will step forward and pick any five cards.
                     Š The teacher will ask them to form five numbers that are less than 60,000 using
                      those number cards.

                     Š The teacher will ask a set of questions, based on numbers formed, with team B.
                      For example,
                     —  What are  the smallest and greatest numbers?


                   —  Arrange the numbers in ascending or descending order, etc.
                     Š Now,  it  is  the  turn  of team B to pick  any five number  cards  to form the  five

                      numbers that  are less  than  60,000  and  the  teacher  will  ask  similar  questions
                      to team A.
                     Š The team will be awarded a point for each correct answer.
                     Š The team which scores the most points will be declared as the winner.

                     Š The activity shall continue with other teams also.
