Example 1: Write the following integers 10, –7, –3, 9, –1, 0, –2, 8 from
(a) the smallest to the largest. (b) the largest to the smallest.
Solution: Given integers are: 10, –7, –3, 9, –1, 0, –2, 8
Represent the given integers on a number line as,
Left side –10 –9 –8 –7 –6 –5 –4 –3 –2 –1 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Right side
(a) For smallest to largest, we check the integers from left to right, thus
–7 < –3 < –2 < –1 < 0 < 8 < 9 < 10
These are in ascending order.
