Learning by Doing

Objective: To strengthen the concept of addition and subtraction of integers
through card game.

Materials Required: 16 blank cards and two empty boxes.
Procedure:

Š Take all the cards.

Š Write down operations involving integers, such as
8 + 2 + (–6) , 4 – (–3), –11 – (–2) , 16 + (–2) on 8 of them.

Š Write the answers of these operations on the remaining 8 cards.
Š Now, put operation cards in an empty box and answers cards in other empty box.

Š Divide the class into pairs and invite each pair one-by-one to perform the activity.

Š The students of each pairs takes a card from the operation box and a card from
Answer box.
Š The students solve the operation and check result with answer card, if the result

match with answer card, then the pair will get 1 point.
Š The pair will continue the activity till match the wrong card.

Š The pair who get more points will win the game.
