              Expanded Form

The expanded form of a number is a way of expressing it as the sum of the place values
              of all its digits.

Example 4: Express the following numbers in their expanded form:
                    (a) 2862574 (b) 80287301
Solution: Find the place value of each digit, then add all the place values to get the
required expanded form of the given number.
                    (a) (b)

Example 5: Write the numerals for each of the following expanded form:

                    (a) 30000000 + 400000 + 3000 + 400 + 8 Remember

Solution: Combining the place values of the digits, we get form of a number in
                                                                                               numerals is also called
                    (a) 30000000 + 400000 + 3000 + 400 + 8 = 3,04,03,408 its short form.
                    (b) 70000000 + 5000000 + 400000 + 20000 + 7000 + 70 + 2 = 7,54,27,072

              PREDECESSOR AND SUCCESSOR

The number that comes just before a given number is called its predecessor. We subtract
1 from the given number to get its predecessor. Thus, predecessor = Number – 1

              For example, the predecessor of 234175 = 234175 – 1 = 234174
The number that comes just after a given number is called its successor.
We add 1 to the given number to get its successor. Thus, successor = Number + 1

              For example, the successor of 234175 = 234175 + 1 = 234176
