(b) 7 kg 250 g = 7.250 kg and 5 kg 165 g = 5.165 kg
kg g Alternatively
7 250 7 . 250 kg
– 5 165 – 5 . 165 kg
2 085 2 . 085 kg
(c) 10 L 75 mL = 10.075 L and 24 L 800 mL = 24.800 L
L mL Alternatively
24 800 24 . 800 L
– 10 075 – 10 . 075 L
14 725 14 . 725 L
Example 3: Multiply the following.
(a) 4 m 5 dm 6 cm 8 mm by 11 and express in metres.
(b) 4 g 345 mg by 6 and express the product in grams.
(c) 755 mL by 25 and express the product in litres.
Solution: (a) First, convert the given measurements into metres. × 4.568
11
4 m 5 dm 6 cm 8 mm = 4.568 m 4568
4.568 × 11 = 50.248 m + 45680
(b) First, convert the given measurements into grams. 50.248
4 g 345 mg 4.345
We have, 1000 mg = 1 g × 6
345 mg = 0.345 g 26.070
4 g 345 mg = 4.345 g
Now, multiply 4.345 by 6.
4 g 345 mg × 6 = 4.345 g × 6 = 26.070 g
(c) 755 mL × 25 = 18875 mL 755
× 25
Convert the mL to litres 3775
18875 mL = 18875 L (1000 mL = 1 L) + 15100
1000 18875
= 18.875 L
Think and Answer
How many kilometres one should walk to cover 10000 steps in a day, if it takes
1200 steps to walk 1 km?

Tip Discuss with children that to perform addition and subtraction on measuring quantities, arrange the quantities
in columnwise as per their unit and if any unit is missing, then put a '0' under the respective units column.
