(b) 5 days 18 hours = 5 days + 18 hours

= (5 × 24) hours + 18 hours ( 1 day = 24 hours)

= 120 hours + 18 hours

= 138 hours

Example 4: Convert the following:

(a) 3 weeks 5 days into days (b) 11 years 9 months into months
Solution:

(a) 3 weeks 5 days = 3 weeks + 5 days

= (3 × 7) days + 5 days ( 1 week = 7 days)

= 21 days + 5 days = 26 days

(b) Since, 1 year = 12 months

So, 11 years 9 months = 11 years + 9 months

= (11 × 12) months + 9 months

= 132 months + 9 months = 141 months

Conversion of Lower Units into Higher Units

To convert lower units of time into higher units, we divide.

Example 5: Convert 3308 seconds into minutes and seconds. 55
Solution: Since 60 seconds = 1 minute 60 3308

3308 seconds = (3308 ÷ 60) minutes 308

Quotient = 55, Remainder = 8 300

Example 6: Convert 532 minutes into hours and minutes.

Example 7: Convert 789 hours into days and hours.
