Example 7: A train leaves Meerut station at 9:50 p.m. and reaches Kolkata at 5:30 a.m. the
next day. Find the duration of the journey. h min
Solution: Departure time of the train = 9:50 p.m. = 2150 hours 23 60
Time interval from 9:50 p.m. to 12 mid-night 24 00
= 2400 hours – 2150 hours – 21 50
= 0210 hours 2 10
= 2 hours 10 minutes

Time interval from 12 mid-night to 5:30 a.m., the next day

= 5 hours 30 minutes h min
So, total time taken = 2 h 10 min + 5 h 30 min 2 10

= 7 hours 40 minutes + 5 30
