              Example 1: Convert 35°C to °F.
                                                                                                        9
                                                                  9 F = C × + 32
Solution: Multiply the °C temperature by . 5
                                                                  5
                                                                                                    7
                                                                                                         9
                            35 × 9 = 7 × 9 = 63 = 35 × + 32
                                   5 5 1
                            Now, add 32 to the product obtained to get the = (9 × 7) + 32
                            temperature in °F. = 63 + 32

                            Therefore, F = 63 + 32 = 95 F = 95°F

                            Thus, 35°C = 95°F
              Fahrenheit (°F) to Celsius (°C)

To convert the temperature from °F to °C, subtract 32 from °F temperature and multiply

                  9
              by . That is 5
                  5 C = (F – 32) × 9

              Example 2: Convert 86°F to °C.

              Solution: Subtract 32 from °F temperature. C = (F – 32) × 5

                            86 – 32 = 54 9 5

                            Now, multiply the difference by 5 to get the = (86 – 32) × 9
                                                                                                    6
                            temperature in °C. 9 = 54 × 9 5 1
                                                    5
                            Therefore, C = 54 × = 6 × 5 = 30°C
                                                    9

                                           = 6 × 5 = 30
                            Thus, 86°F = 30°C.

Example 3: The temperature of Jaipur is 45°C and temperature of Chennai is 132°F. Which
city is hotter and how much?

Solution: Given, temperature of Jaipur = 45°C and temperature of Chennai = 132°F.
Let us convert Jaipur's temperature into °F.

                            We have,
                                                                Project
                                   9
                            °F = × °C + 32 1. Fill one glass with normal water and
                                   5

9 the other with lukewarm water.
                                = × 45° + 32 2. Use a clinical Celsius thermometer to measure
                                    5
                                = 81 + 32 = 113 their temperatures. Convert the recorded Celsius
                                                                temperature to their Fahrenheit equivalent.
Now, 45°C = 113°F 3. Verify your answer by measuring each

                            Since, 113°F < 132°F. temperature with a Fahrenheit thermometer.
Hence, Chennai is hotter than Jaipur by 19°F (132°F – 113°F).
