Learning by Doing
Objective: To strengthen the concept of unitary method through real life situations.
Materials Required: Old newspaper, a pair of scissors, chart paper, glue stick.
Procedure:
Divide the students into groups of five.
Get students to read the old newspaper and to underline news items related to offer
price of different articles.
Have the student cut out the news items along with their pictures from the newspaper.
Collect 8 to 10 items per group.
Paste the cut outs on a chart paper.
Compare the prices and decide which offer is beneficial.
For example,
Pack of 3 toothbrushes for `90 Pack of 5 toothbrushes for `140
Pack of 3 Pack of 5
toothbrushes toothbrushes
`90 only `140 only
Cost of 1 toothbrush = `90 ÷ 3 = `30 Cost of 1 toothbrush = `140 ÷ 5 = `28
Thus, the pack of 5 toothbrushes is cheaper than the pack of 3 toothbrushes.
