                                   Learning by Doing




              Objective: To strengthen the concept of unitary method through real life situations.
              Materials Required:  Old newspaper, a pair of scissors, chart paper, glue stick.

              Procedure:
                  Š Divide the students into groups of five.
                  Š Get students to read the old newspaper and to underline news items related to offer

                  price of different articles.
                  Š Have the student cut out the news items along with their pictures from the newspaper.
                  Collect 8 to 10 items per group.

                  Š Paste the cut outs on a chart paper.
                  Š Compare the prices and decide which offer is beneficial.
                 For example,

                  Pack of 3 toothbrushes for `90                          Pack of 5 toothbrushes for `140

                            toothbrushes                                                  toothbrushes




                                       `90 only                                                     `140 only



                  Cost of 1 toothbrush = `90 ÷ 3 = `30                    Cost of 1 toothbrush = `140 ÷ 5 = `28

                  Thus, the pack of 5 toothbrushes is cheaper than the pack of 3 toothbrushes.
