                 India is the seventh largest country of the world and 3  largest country in Asia in terms

                 of land area. The land area of Asia is about 30 per cent of the total Earth's land area
                 which  is  44614000  sq. km and  India  cover  approximate 7.4%  land  area  of Asian  land
                 area. What is the approximate land area covered by India?

              Objective: To reinforce the concept of percentage.

              Materials Required:  A sheet of square paper, crayons, pencils and scale (One per
                                      child)
              Procedure:
                    Š  Instruct the students to mark 100 squares on the paper.
                    Š  Pose a situation to the students. For example, ’Following vegetables
                     are grown on a piece of land by a farmer as per the given percentage.
                     Potato: 18%; Onion: 22%;   Tomato: 40%;  and  Capsicum:  20%,

                     and  estimate the  plantation  area  occupied by  each  variety  of
                     vegetables.
                    Š  Ask the students to colour the square paper according to the
                     percentages of the vegetables they want to grow.
