Learning by Doing
Objective: To collect, display and interpret data.
Materials Required: 4 empty boxes, pebbles/buttons, glue, paper and coloured
pencils, etc.
Procedure:
Write the names of any four fruits (say, apple, banana, pineapple and orange),
separately on paper slips with coloured pencils.
Paste them on the empty boxes, one slip on one box as shown in the figure.

Give one pebble/button to each student of the class.
Placed the boxes on a table or on the floor.
Ask a group of students (say, 16, 20 or 24) to drop their pebbles/buttons one by one
in the box bearing the name of their favourite fruits.
Teacher will ask any four students of the class to come forward and count the
number of pebbles/buttons in each box and write on the blackboard.
The students should prepare a table as shown.

In this way, the data is collected regarding the fruits liked by the students.
Now, the teacher will instruct to all the students of the class to find the fractions for
each of the given fruit in their notebook. Hence, draw a circle graph.
