                                   Learning by Doing




              Objective: To collect, display and interpret data.

              Materials Required:  4 empty boxes, pebbles/buttons, glue, paper and coloured
                                      pencils, etc.
              Procedure:

                     Š  Write the  names  of any  four  fruits  (say,  apple,  banana,  pineapple  and  orange),
                      separately on paper slips with coloured pencils.
                     Š  Paste them on the empty boxes, one slip on one box as shown in the figure.

                     Š  Give one pebble/button to each student of the class.

                     Š  Placed the boxes on a table or on the floor.

                     Š  Ask a group of students (say, 16, 20 or 24) to drop their pebbles/buttons one by one
                      in the box bearing the name of their favourite fruits.
                     Š  Teacher will  ask  any four students of the  class  to  come  forward and  count the
                      number of pebbles/buttons in each box and write on the blackboard.

                     Š  The students should prepare a table as shown.

                     Š  In this way, the data is collected regarding the fruits liked by the students.
                     Š  Now, the teacher will instruct to all the students of the class to find the fractions for
                      each of the given fruit in their notebook. Hence, draw a circle graph.
