Comparing CapaCiTiEs
We use the words ‘more’ and ‘less’ to compare the capacities of containers.
Look at the following vessels.
Which contains more water? _________
Let us do an activity for comparing activity
the capacities of these containers. Fill each container full of water. Pour the water
We see that the jug is bigger than the into two identical bottles and then compare.
mug. That means, a bigger container
has more capacity than a smaller one.
Look at the following containers. Both
the containers are filled with water.
Here, the bucket is bigger than the
mug.
The jug contains more water than the mug.
Remember
Capacity tells us how much liquid
a container can hold.
The bucket can hold more water than a mug. So, the bucket has more capacity than
that of a mug.
