              Sharing equaLLy

Let us see how children share apples.

We first take 4 plates and Are there sufficient apples left
put 1 apple on each plate. in the basket?

Yes, so we put 1 more Now, no apple is
apple on each plate. left in the basket.

                                                                   We have shared
                                                                   8 apples equally.

Here, we see that all the 8 apples have been shared among the 4 children equally.

              Each one got 2 apples.

We say that: 8 divided by 4 is equal to 2. We write it as: 8 ÷ 4= 2

              The symbol ‘÷’ stands for division. 8 ÷ 4 = 2 is a division fact.
