Subtracting Zero (0)

Mona has 5 apples. She ate nothing. Remember
When we subtract
How many apples are still with her? zero from a number,

Clearly, 5. the number remains
the same.
So, 5 – 0 = 5

Similarly, we have 6 – 0 = 6, 4 – 0 = 4 and so on.

Subtracting one (1)

Rakhi has 4 apples. She ate one apple. Remember
When we subtract 1
How many apples are left with her? from a number the
answer is the number
Clearly, 3. that comes just
before it.
So, 4 – 1 = 3

Similarly, we have 8 – 1 = 7, 5 – 1 = 4 and so on.

Subtracting a number from itself Remember

Alka has 3 apples. She ate all three. How When we subtract a
number from itself,
many apples are left with her? the answer is zero
(0).
Clearly, 0.

So, 3 – 3 = 0 Think and Answer

Similarly, 8 – 8 = 0, 9 – 9 = 0 and so on. 1. How old are you this year? ..........
