Let us compare 46 and 24. RULE 2

When both the numbers

are of two digits, compare

the tens digits first.

46 24

Here, 4 tens is more than 2 tens.

So, 46 > 24 or 24 < 46.
Let us compare 34 and 37. RULE 3

If the tens digits are the
same, compare the ones

digits.

34 37

Here, both tens digits are the same. But, 7 ones is more than 4 ones.

So, 37 > 34 or 34 < 37.
