rani: I have a chocolate bar. There are 12 square pieces in it.

It shows a collection or group of 12.

Soni (rani’s sister): Wow! I also want to eat this chocolate. Will
you share it with me Didi?

rani: Of course. I will give you half of it. I can break it along the

dotted line into two halves as shown.
Soni: Thank you! I got one-half or 6 pieces.

Thus, each one of Rani and Soni has one-half of 12, that is, 6.
                                          1 1
Similarly, we can find or of the following given Note
                                          3 4 1

              collections as shown below. 2 of 12 pieces = 12 ÷ 2 = 6 pieces
              (a) Divide a collection of 6 ice-creams into 3 equal

groups. Each group has 2 ice-creams.
                           1
                   Thus, of 6 = 2.
                           3
              (b) Divide a collection of 16 lollipops into 4 equal
                   groups. Each group has

                   4 lollipops.
                           1
                   Thus, of 16 = 4.
                           4
