                                   Learning by Doing

              Objective: To make fraction chart.

Materials required: A set of four rectangular strips of paper of
equal size, crayons, a pencil, a sheet of paper and a glue

              Procedure:

Š Divide the class into groups of four students.

Š Each group starts the activity with a set of four rectangular strips of paper.

Š One student will fold the first strip from middle to divide it into 2 equal parts.

                     Š Then he/she will unfold and 1

shade 1 part. The shaded part 2
                                     1
                      is one-half ( ) of the whole.
                                     2
Š Next, the second student will take another strip of paper and fold it from the

middle twice to obtain 4 equal parts.

                     Š After unfolding the strip, he/ 1
she will shade one part. The 4
                                                        1
shaded part is one-fourth ( ) of the whole.
                                                        4
Š Now, the third student will take the third strip of paper and fold it into three

equal parts. The teacher can assist to fold the strip into 3 equal parts. Then

he/ she will unfold the strip 1
and shade one part of it. The 3
                                                      1
shaded part is one-third ( ) of the whole.
                                                      3
Š The fourth student will keep Fraction Chart

the strip as it is and paste it on 1 Whole
a plane sheet of paper. 1

Š Just below it, other students 1 2

also paste their strips in order 1 3

                      as shown here. 4
Š Your fraction chart is ready!
