                                   Learning by Doing




              Objective: To learn how to add money.

              Materials required:  Blank stickers and small pieces of paper
                                         for writing the total cost

              Procedure:

                     Š Pair up the students and get them to play a jumbo sale game.

                     Š Tell the children to pretend that they are at a jumbo sale where they can buy

                      and sell stationery or books.

                     Š Give every child 10 stickers and 5 pieces of blank paper as paper money.

                     Š Ask every child to take out any items from his/her bag and set a price to each
                      item by writing the price on the sticker and sticking it on them.

                     Š The children take turns to buy from each other three items at a time.

                     Š The child (who is acting as buyer) is to add the prices of the three items and

                      then write down the total cost on the small piece of paper money.

                     Š The child (who is acting as seller) then checks if the total cost is correct by
                      doing the addition before collecting the paper money from the buyer.

                 1.  Which two items Shanti can buy if she has `35?

                 2.  Find the total amount Shanti has to pay, if she buys two fevicols.
                 3.  Shanti buys a pencil-box and two more items for `160. Name the other two items
                     she could buy.
