All the numbers that can be put in pairs, that is, in groups of 2s are called even

              numbers.
All the numbers that cannot be put in pairs, that is, in group of 2s are called odd

              numbers.
example: Praveen has 8 marbles. He can make

pairs of these taking 2 marbles at a time.

No marble is left, so 8 is an even number.

Sid has 7 marbles. Can he make pairs of marbles

taking 2 marbles at a time?

No, 1 marble is left unpaired. So, 7 is an odd number.
