All the numbers that can be put in pairs, that is, in groups of 2s are called even
numbers.
All the numbers that cannot be put in pairs, that is, in group of 2s are called odd
numbers.
example: Praveen has 8 marbles. He can make
pairs of these taking 2 marbles at a time.
No marble is left, so 8 is an even number.
Sid has 7 marbles. Can he make pairs of marbles
taking 2 marbles at a time?
No, 1 marble is left unpaired. So, 7 is an odd number.

An odd number has 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 at the ones place.
even
2 4 6 8 10
An even number has 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 at the ones place.
