How many balloons are left now? – 6

Here, we subtract 6 from 9. Our answer is 3. 3 Difference

 The number from which we subtract another number is called minuend.

 The number that is subtracted from the first number is called subtrahend.
Properties of Subtraction

Subtracting 0

When we subtract 0 from a number, the difference is the number itself.

(a) 15 – 0 = 15 (b) 72 – 0 = 72 (c) 26 – 0 = 26

Subtracting 1

When we subtract 1 from a number, the

‘before’ the subtracting number (Minuend). The word “subtraction” is made up of
two words ‘sub’ and ‘tract’. ‘sub’ means
(a) 26 – 1 = 25 (b) 60 – 1 = 59 below or bottom and ‘tract’ means to
