example 1: Abdul, a balloon seller had 345 balloons. He sold 234
of them. How many balloons are left with him?

              Solution: H t O

                              Total number of Balloons = 3 4 5
                                             Balloons sold = – 2 3 4
                                              Balloons left = 1 1 1
Thus, 111 balloons are left with him.

example 2: A theatre has 550 seats. One day, 489 people saw a movie. How many
                              seats were vacant?

              Solution: H t O

                                                              4 14 10
                                  Total number of 4
                              seats in the theatre = 5 5 0
                                   Seats occupied = – 4 8 9

                                   Seats vacant = 0 6 1
                              Thus, 61 seats were vacant.
