When we add the same number again and again, it is called repeated addition.

              Multiplication as Repeated Addition

Binny gives 2 roses each to his 4 sisters.

To find the total number of roses given, Binny uses repeated addition.

Here, we observe that he has 4 sisters and he gives 2 roses to each sister.

                                                                                           Multiplication is a

                                                                                           repeated addition.

                     2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 8 roses

So, there are 8 roses in all. Note

Thus, 4 sisters with 2 roses each make 8. It can be We can read 4 × 2 = 8 in the

              also said 4 times 2 is 8 and expressed as: l 4 times 2 is 8.

                     4 × 2 = 8 ‘×’ is the sign of multiplication. l 4 twos are 8.
                                                                                    4 into 2 equals 8.
                                                                                 l
Repeated addition is called multiplication. l 4 multiplied by 2 is equal to 8.
