              line

A line is a straight one-dimensional figure, that does not have a
thickness. If we fold a piece of paper, the crease represents a line. A

line can extend indefinitely in both directions. Line
Line AB given alongside is denoted symbolically as AB . A B

              types of lines

There are two types of lines:

              1. Straight line 2. Curved line.
When you hold a piece of thread tightly, you get a straight line.

When you hold a piece of thread loosely, you can get a curved line.

The straight line can be horizontal, vertical or slanting.

                         Straight Lines Note

                                                                                 uncountable lines O
                                                                                 from a given point.
                                                                               • From two given points,
only one straight line P Q
                                                                                 can pass.
              line Segment

A line segment is a part of a line. It has a fixed length.
Here, in the given figure, AB is a line on which P and Q are A P Q B

any two points. After removing the extra parts beyond P and Q, it forms a line segment PQ.

Line segment PQ or QP is written as PQ or QP simply PQ, where P P Q
and Q are the endpoints of the line segment.

The edge of your notebook, edge of your ruler, etc. can be considered as examples of line
segments. A line segment is a part of a line. A line has no endpoints and it has no fixed
length, whereas a line segment has a fixed length.
