Alternative: On converting cm into m, write the last two digits as cm and the remaining
digit as m.
For example, 3261 cm = 32 m 61 cm.
Kilometre into Metre
To convert kilometres into metres, we multiply the number of kilometres by 1000.
Example 4: Aditi goes to school daily by her bicycle. The distance of the school from her
house is 3 km. What is the distance in m?
Note
Solution: 3 km = (3 × 1000) m = 3000 m 1 km = 1000 m.
Kilometre and Metre into Metre
To convert kilometres and metres into metres, we multiply the number of kilometres by
1000 and add the product to the number of metres.
Example 5: Raju travels a distance of 8 km 490 m. Find the distance in m.
Solution: 8 km 490 m = (8 × 1000) m + 490 m = 8000 m + 490 m = 8490 m
Thus, Raju travels 8490 m.
Metre into Kilometre
To convert metres into kilometres, we divide the number of metres by 1000.
Example 6: Convert 7725 m into km.
Solution: 7725 m = 7000 m + 725 m Or 7725 m = (7725 ÷ 1000) km
= 7 km + 725 m = 7 km 725 m
1000 7725 7 km
= 7 km 725 m 7000
So, 7725 m = 7 km 725 m. 725 m
Alternative: To convert m into km, just write the last three digits as m and the remaining
digits as km.
For example, 1332 m = 1 km 332 m. 1 Remember
1
250 m = km, 500 m = km, 1000 m = 1 km.
