Kilogram and gram into gram
To convert kilograms and grams into grams, we multiply the number of kilograms by 1000
and add the product to the number of grams.
Example 3: Convert the following into g.
(a) 3 kg 120 g (b) 9 kg 378 g
Solution:
(a) 3 kg 120 g = (3 × 1000 ) g + 120 g (b) 9 kg 378 g = (9 × 1000 ) g + 378 g
= 3000 g + 120 g = 9000 g + 378 g
= 3120 g = 9378 g
Conversion of gram into Kilogram and gram
To convert grams into kilograms and grams, we divide the number of grams by 1000.
Here, we get the quotient (in kg) and remainder (in g).
Example 4: Convert 2134 g into kg and g.
Solution: 2134 g = (2134 ÷ 1000) kg 1000 2134 2 kg
2000
= 2 kg 134 g 134 g
Or
2134 g = 2000 g + 134 g = 2 kg + 134 g = 2 kg 134 g
Thus, 2134 g = 2 kg 134 g.
Alternative: To convert g into kg, just write the last 3 digits as g and the remaining digits
as kg. For example, 6636 g = 6 kg 636 g
