              Example 2: Add 56 L 346 mL and 71 L 465 mL.

Solution: Arrange the given measures in the two columns of L and mL and add them.

                             Step 1: Add millilitres. 346 mL + 465 mL = 811 mL L mL

                                       Write 811 under the mL column. 1 1 1
                             Step 2: Add litres. 56 L + 71 L = 127 L 5 6 3 4 6

                                                                                          + 7 1 4 6 5
Write 127 under the L column.
                                                                                             1 2 7 8 1 1
                             Thus, 56 L 346 mL + 71 L 465 mL = 127 L 811 mL

              Example 3: Find the sum of 72 L 360 mL and 64 L 950 mL.

Solution: Step 1: Add millilitres and convert the sum into litres and millilitres.

                                      360 + 950 = 1310 mL = 1000 mL + 310 mL

                                                                   = 1 L 310 mL
Write 310 under mL column and carry forward 1 to L column.

Step 2: Add litres. L mL

                                      1 L (carried forward) + 72 L + 64 L = 137 L 1 1

                                      Write 137 under L column. 7 2 3 6 0
                             Thus, 72 L 360 mL + 64 L 950 mL = 137 L 310 mL. + 6 4 9 5 0
                                                                                               1 3 7 3 1 0

Kritika said that units of lengths, weights or capacities must be the same before
adding and subtracting them. Do you agree with the statement given by Kritika?
