                       Think and Answer
Sania’s family wants to buy goods from the shopping
mall using the shortest route. The distance
between two locations next to each other is
                    marked on the given picture.

                     1. Which route should the car take - Home to
shopping mall via temple or home to shopping
                        mall via bank? ______________________

                     2. How much more distance will the car
cover if Sania takes the longer route?

              subtraCtion of Weight

              Example 1: Subtract:

                             (a) 350 g from 900 g

                             (b) 17 kg from 30 kg

              Solution: (a) 8 10 (b) 2 10

                                      9 0 0 g 3 0 kg
                                   – 3 5 0 g – 1 7 kg
                                      5 5 0 g 1 3 kg

              Example 2: Subtract 14 kg 569 g from 21 kg 664 g.

Solution: Arrange the given measures in the two columns of ‘kg’ and ‘g’ and subtract
                             them as ordinary numbers.

                             Step 1: Subtract grams (g). kg g

                                       664 g – 569 g = 95 g 15
                                                                                                  1 11 5 5 14
                                       Write 95 under the g column. 2 1 6 6 4
                             Step 2: Subtract kilograms (kg). – 1 4 5 6 9

                                                                                                      7 0 9 5
                                       21 kg – 14 kg = 7 kg

Write 7 under the kg column.

                             Thus, 21 kg 664 g – 14 kg 569 g = 7 kg 95 g
