Example 5: Two containers contain 18 L 300 mL and 17 L 900 mL oil. Find the total quantity

of oil in the two containers.
              Solution: L mL

                                                                               1 1
Quantity of oil in the first container = 1 8 3 0 0 Olive Sunflower
                                                                                                          Oil
                                                                                                                  Oil
                     Quantity of oil in the second container = + 1 7 9 0 0
                     Total quantity of oil in both the containers = 3 6 2 0 0

Thus, the total quantity of oil in both the containers is 36 L 200 mL.

Example 6: A milkman sold 80 L 300 mL milk in the morning and 98 L 500 mL in the

evening. How much more milk did he sell in the evening than in the morning?

              Solution:
                                                                         L mL
                     Quantity of milk sold in the evening = 9 8 5 0 0
                     Quantity of milk sold in the morning = – 8 0 3 0 0

                     Difference in both quantities = 1 8 2 0 0

Thus, in the evening, he sold 18 L 200 mL more milk.
