Observe the relationships between the units of time.
1 hour = 60 minutes 1 month = 30 days
1 day = 24 hours 1 year = 12 months
1 week = 7 days 1 year = 365 days
example 1: Mohit practised cricket for 180 minutes. For how many hours did he play
cricket?
Solution: 60 minutes = 1 hour
180 minutes = 180 ÷ 60 = 3 hours
Thus, Mohit practised cricket for 3 hours.
example 2: Convert:
(a) 6 months into days. (b) 7 weeks into days.
Solution: (a) 1 month = 30 days (b) 1 week = 7 days
6 months = 30 × 6 days 7 weeks = 7 × 7 days
= 180 days = 49 days
example 3: Convert:
(a) 8 minutes into seconds. (b) 4 hours into minutes. (c) 5 days into hours.
Solution:
(a) 1 minute = 60 seconds (b) 1 hour = 60 minutes (c) 1 day = 24 hours
8 minutes = 60 × 8 seconds 4 hours = 4 × 60 minutes 5 days = 5 × 24 hours
= 480 seconds = 240 minutes = 120 hours
