Also, when we arrange the numbers in decreasing order, that is, from the greatest to the
smallest, it is called the descending order.
So, the descending order of the numbers is: 6,543 > 5,023 > 2,937 > 1,359.
example: The depths of the Atlantic Ocean is 3,646 m; the Pacific Ocean is 4,280 m; the
Arctic Ocean is 1,204 m; the Indian Ocean is 3,741 m. Arrange these depths of Oceans
in descending order.
Solution: Looking at the thousands place digits, 3, 4, 1 and 3; we find that 4 > 3 = 3 > 1.
That means, 4,280 is the greatest and 1,204 is the smallest. Now, comparing
the hundreds digits of the other two numbers, we th H t O
find 7 > 6. So, 3,741 > 3,646. 3 6 4 6
4 2 8 0 Greatest
Thus, the four numbers in descending order will 1 2 0 4 Smallest
be arranged as: 4,280 > 3,741 > 3,646 > 1,204 3 7 4 1
Knowledge Desk
