              Step 2: Multiply the tens. 3 tens × 3 = 9 tens H t O
                   9 tens + 2 tens (carried over) = 11 tens. Regroup 11 tens into 1 2

                        hundreds and tens. So, 11 tens = 1 hundred 1 one. 3 8
Write 1 in the tens column and carry over 1 hundred in the × 3
                        hundreds column. 1 4

Step 3: Since, no other digit is in the hundreds column. H t O

So, write 1 in the hundreds column of the product. 1 2
                                                                                                                3 8
                   Thus, 38 × 3 = 114. × 3

                 Therefore, Arjun needs `114 for buying 3 notebooks. 1 1 4
              Example 1: Multiply 66 by 9.
              Solution: Step 1: Multiply the ones. H t O

                           6 ones × 9 = 54 ones 5
                                              = 5 tens 4 ones 6 6

Write 4 in the ones column and carry over 5 in the tens column. × 9
                                                                                                                    4
Step 2: Multiply the tens and regroup. H t O
                           6 tens × 9 = 54 tens 5 5

                           54 tens + 5 tens (carried over) = 59 tens = 5 hundreds 9 tens 6 6
Write 9 in the tens column and 5 in the hundreds column. × 9
                           Thus, 66 × 9 = 594 5 9 4

              Multiplication of a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number

Siya's father is a fruit seller. He brings 4 boxes of mangoes to his shop.
Siya: How many mangoes are there in these boxes?

Father: There are 245 mangoes in each box. Can you find how many mangoes are there in all?
Siya: Yes, for this, I have to multiply 245 by 4.
Father: You are right! Follow the steps given below to find the product.
              Step 1: Multiply the ones. H t O

                   5 ones × 4 = 20 ones = 2 tens 0 ones 2
                                                                                                             2 4 5
Write 0 in the ones column and carry over 2 in the tens column. × 4

                                                                                                                    0
              Step 2: Multiply the tens. H t O

                 4 tens × 4 = 16 tens 1 2
                  16 tens + 2 tens = 18 tens = 1 hundred 8 tens 2 4 5
Write 8 in the tens column and carry over 1 in the hundreds column. × 4
                                                                                                                8 0
