Example 4: Multiply 153 by 26.
Solution: Expand the multiplier 26 as 2 tens + 6 ones.
Step 1: Multiply 153 Step 2: Multiply 153 by Step 3: Add the products.
by 6 ones. 2 tens. 918 + 3060 = 3978
153 × 6 ones = 918 153 × 2 tens

lattice Multiplication
We can also multiply the numbers by using a method called Lattice multiplication.
Let us multiply 56 by 34 using lattice multiplication as shown below.
Step 1: Since 56 and 34 are both 2-digit numbers.
So, draw a 2 × 2 grid.
Also, draw diagonal lines in each box as shown alongside.
Step 2: Write the multiplicand on top and the multiplier on the right of the grid as shown.
Step 3: Multiply the numbers and write the tens place digit in the 5 6
upper triangle of each box and the ones digit at the lower 1 1 8 3
triangle of each box. 5

tip Explain to children with example, if after multiplication, the product is only one- 0
digit, then put a '0' in the upper triangle. Like. 2 8
