              2. Find the product of given pair of numbers in each case. Observe that the change
in the order of numbers does not affect the product.

                   (a) 14 × 8 (b) 53 × 7 (c) 42 × 16 (d) 14 × 20

                        8 × 14 7 × 53 16 × 42 20 × 14

              3. Find the estimated product as well as the actual product of the following.
                   (a) 55 × 24 (b) 28 × 13 (c) 63 × 34 (d) 44 × 33

                   (e) 58 × 22 (f) 42 × 24 (g) 73 × 19 (h) 45 × 19

              WorD probleMs

Example 1: A bus can carry 52 passengers. How many passengers can be carried by 36
              buses? th H t O

              Solution: Number of passengers a bus can carry = 52 5 2
                             Number of buses = 36 × 3 6

So, number of passengers that 36 buses can carry 3 1 2
                             = 52 × 36 = 1872 + 1 5 6 0
                                                                                             1 8 7 2
Therefore, 36 buses can carry 1872 passengers.
Example 2: A packet contains 144 balloons. Find the number of balloons in 24 such packets.
Solution: Number of balloons in one packet = 144 th H t O

                             Number of packets = 24 1 4 4
So, the number of balloons in 24 such packets × 2 4
                                                                                            5 7 6
                                                                                                          1st product
                             = 144 × 24 = 3456 balloons + 2 8 8 0 2nd product
                             Therefore, 24 packets contain 3456 balloons. 3 4 5 6 Sum
