              Division by 10

              Observe the following examples.

              example 1: Divide 87 by 10.                            example 2: Divide 257 by 10.

              Solution:      10 87    8     Q                        Solution:     10 257    25 Q
                                 80                                                    20
                                  7      R                                               57
                                                                                         50
                             Clearly, Dividend = 87,                                      7    R

                             Quotient = 8, Remainder = 7
                                                                                   Clearly, Dividend = 257,
                                                                                   Quotient = 25, Remainder = 7

              Thus, when a number is divided by 10, the digit at the ones place of the number is the
              remainder and the number formed by the remaining digits is the quotient.

              Division by 100

              Observe the following examples.

              example 1: Divide 358 by 100.                          example 2: Divide 7856 by 100.

              Solution:      100 358    3 Q                          Solution:     100 7856     78 Q
                                  300                                                    700
                                    58    R                                               856
                                                                                          800
                             Clearly, Dividend = 358,                                       56 R
                             Quotient = 3, Remainder = 58
                                                                                   Clearly, Dividend = 7856,
                                                                                   Quotient = 78, Remainder = 56

              Thus, when a number is divided by 100, the number formed with the tens and ones digits
              of the number is the remainder and the number formed by the remaining digits is the

              quotient.

                    412 pencils are packed in the packets of 10 each. How many packets are made and how many
                    pencils are left?
