                                   Learning by Doing

Objective: To reinforce the concept of equivalent fractions.

Materials required: Squared papers and coloured sketch pens.

Procedure: (This activity will perform individually.)

Š Take two sheets of plain paper.
Š Fold it neatly into two equal halves. Mark the fold.
Š Now colour one half of each of the paper with different
colours as shown alongside. 1 1

Š Write the fraction of the coloured part for each sheet. 2 2
Š Now take the first sheet. Fold it into four equal parts.

                     Š Mark the folds.
Š Again write the fraction of the coloured part for each 2 1
sheet. Observe the fractions obtained. 4 2

                                  1 2
                     We have: =
                                  2 4 5
                                                                                          3 4
Š You can also fold the first sheet to represent the fractions , and .
                                                                                          6 8 10

Š Try different fractions by taking more sheets of paper.
                     For example, 1 = 2 = 3 ; 5 = 10 = 15
                                      4 8 12 10 20 30
