Other units for Measuring Lengths
Inch, foot, yard, mile, etc. are the other units which
are used commonly for measuring length. Quick Check
Mostly, we tell our heights in feet and inches. What is your height?
For example, Raman is 4 feet 6 inches tall. We write
‘ft’ for 'foot' and feet.
Look at the ruler given below:

We can see that one side of the ruler measures length in centimetres (cm) and the
other side measures in inches (in).

12 inches make 1 foot.
1 foot = 12 inches or 12 inches (in) = 1 foot (ft) List the objects

Solution: (a) We have, 1 foot = 12 inches
Therefore, 3 ft = 3 × 12 in = 36 in
3 ft 4 in = 36 in + 4 in = 40 in
(b) We have, 12 in = 1 ft
To convert inches to ft, we will divide by 12.
Therefore,

4 Remainder
Here, the quotient becomes feet (ft) and the remainder becomes inch (in).
So, 28 in = 2 ft 4 in
