24-hour clock Method to convert examples

00:00 hours to 00:59 Add 12 hours and write the 00:44 hours 12:44 a.m.

01:00 hours to 11:59 Write the same time using 08:50 hours 8:50 a.m.

12:00 hours to 12:59 Write the same time using 12:12 hours 12:12 p.m.

13:28 hours 1:28 p.m.
13:00 hours to 23:59 Subtract 12 hours and write 16:49 hours 4:49 p.m.

example 1: Maya goes to school at 7:30 a.m. in the morning. Write the time in 24-hour
clock format.
Solution: To write the 12 hour clock format, that is, a.m. time

into 24-hour clock format, we just remove ‘:’ sign
and write the same time without a.m.
So, we write 7:30 a.m. as 07:30 hours or 0730 hours

in the 24-hour clock format.
example 2: A train is departure from platform 1 at 1545. Write

the time in 12-hour clock format.
Solution: To convert the 24-hour clock time between 1300
hours to 2359 hours into 12 hours clock format,
subtract 1200 hours and write the time using p.m.

So, 1545 hours = 1545 – 1200

= 345 = 3:45 p.m.
Thus, the train departure at 3:45 p.m.
