5. Putul takes 55 minutes 20 seconds to complete her homework. Her brother Ajay

takes 1 hour 10 minutes 20 seconds to complete his homework. Who takes a
longer time to complete his/her homework and by how much?

The time taken to finish an activity is called its duration. If we know the starting time

and finishing time of an activity, we can find its duration.
example 1: Bhawna left for school at 7:15 a.m. and reached school at 7:45 a.m. How

much time did she take to reach school?

Solution: + 30 minutes

7:00 7:15 7:30 7:45 8:00

Starting time Reaching time Duration
7:15 a.m. 7:45 a.m. 30 minutes

Thus, Bhawna took 30 minutes to reach school.

example 2: A bus left Muzaffarnagar at 6:45 p.m. and reached
Delhi at 10:30 p.m. How much time did the bus take to reach
Delhi?

Solution:
