Step 2: Multiply the figures by the given number just like we Remember
multiply any ordinary numbers. When we multiply
Step 3: In the product, put a point after the second digit from an amount by any
the right. number we place the
point in the product
example 1: Multiply the following. after two places
(a) `245.30 by 8. (b) `348.25 by 12. from the right.
Solution:
(a) ` 2 4 5 . 3 0 (b) ` 3 4 8 . 2 5
× 8 × 1 2
1 9 6 2 . 4 0 ` 6 9 6 5 0
+ ` 3 4 8 2 5 0
` 4 1 7 9 . 0 0
Hence, `245.30 × 8 = `1962.40 Hence, `348.25 × 12 = `4179.00
example 2: The cost of a colour box is `55.75. Find the cost of 6 such colour boxes.
Solution: The cost of one colour box = `55.75
Number of colour boxes required = 6 ` 5 5 . 7 5
So, the cost of 6 colour boxes = `55.75 × 6 × 6
= `334.50 3 3 4 . 5 0

When we are given the value of more number of items and we need to find the
value of a single item, we do the operation of division.
We follow these steps to divide an amount by a number.
Step 1: Write the given amount into figures in place of dividend.
Step 2: Divide it by the given number taking the amount as an ordinary number.
Step 3: In the quotient, put a point after two digits from the right.
example 1: Divide the following:
(a) `48.65 by 7. (b) `213.50 by 14
Solution:
(a) 7 48.65 6.95 (b) 14 213.50 15.25
42 14
66 73
63 70
35 35
28
35 70
0 70
0
Hence, `48.65 ÷ 7 = `6.95 Hence, `213.50 ÷ 14 = `15.25
