                1. divide the following using a multiplication table.
                    (a) 15 ÷ 3 (b) 64 ÷ 8 (c) 81 ÷ 9

                2. Write two division facts for each of the given multiplication facts.

                    (a) 15 × 5 = 75 (b) 120 × 4 = 480 (c) 48 × 8 = 384

                3. divide and check your answer.

                    (a) 2 54 (b) 7 56 (c) 3 547

              Division

We know that when something is distributed equally, we say that it has been divided.
The symbol for division is ÷.

Terms related to the division are as follows:

Š The number which is to be divided is called the dividend.

Š The number by which the dividend is divided is called the divisor.
Š The result of division is called the quotient.

Š The number left over after the division is called the remainder.

The number of times the divisor is contained in the dividend.
                                                or (Result of division)
                                                      Quotient Remember

The number by which The number which are inverse of

The number left over after division.
                                                                                                        Dividend
Here, in the division of 543 ÷ 8, we have: Divisor 8 543 67 Quotient
                  Dividend = 543                                Divisor = 8                       48             (Q)

                  Quotient (Q) = 67 and Remainder (R) = 7 63
                                                                                                    56

              Division by 1

                  1. When a number is divided by 1, the quotient is the number itself.

                       examples: (a) 34 ÷ 1 = 34 (b) 375 ÷ 1 = 375
