1. Match the division problem with their estimated quotient correctly.
Column A Column B
(a) 93 ÷ 27 (i) 5
(b) 903 ÷ 62 (ii) 3
(c) 573 ÷ 61 (iii) 10
(d) 305 ÷ 63 (iv) 15
2. Find the estimated quotients by rounding off the numbers to their highest place.
(a) 88 ÷ 34 (b) 257 ÷ 28 (c) 481 ÷ 14 (d) 395 ÷ 16
(e) 2402 ÷ 44 (f) 3821 ÷ 22 (g) 4620 ÷ 48 (h) 7004 ÷ 53
WorD Problems
example 1: A whole seller has 11232 kg of wheat contained in 24 24 11232 468
sacks equally, find the weight of wheat in each sack. – 96
Solution: Total quantity of wheat = 11232 kg – 163
144
Number of sacks = 24 192
Quantity of wheat in each sack = 11232 ÷ 24 = 468 kg – 192
0
Thus, the weight of wheat in each sack = 468 kg
example 2: There is an equal number of students in each of the 8 houses of a school.
If there are 488 students in the school, how many students are there in each house?
Solution: Number of houses = 8 8 488 61
Total number of students = 488 – 48
Number of students in each house = 488 ÷ 8 = 61 8
Thus, the number of students in each house is 61. – 8

the four operations together
The fundamental operations in mathematics are addition, subtraction, multiplication
and division. Now, we learn to solve mixed operation problems, which require more
than one operation to get the solution.
To solve the mixed operation problem, keep the following things in mind.
Read the problem carefully and visualise it in your mind.
Identify the keywords of the problem and mark them.
Find the operations needed to solve the problem.
