Learning by Doing
Objective: To reinforce the concept of the division of 4-digit numbers
by a 1-digit number.
Materials required: Dice, coloured sketch pens, A4-size sheet,
pattern drawn on a chart paper
Procedure:
Divide the class into groups of 4 students and distribute a sketch pen of different
colours to each member of the group.
Give an A4-size sheet to each group with a game board made on it. The game
board has some 1-digit numbers written on it, as shown below. A few 4-digit
numbers will be written on the top.
1167, 7125, 6719, 3479, 2521
1 2 3 1 4
2 2 1 1 4
3 5 2 1 4
2 3 4 5 1
2 1 1 3 4
One member of the group rolls a dice on the game board. The digit on which
the dice lands forms the divisor.
Another member selects a 4-digit number mentioned on the board and divides
this number by the divisor and then colours the remainder, if any, on the board.
Each player will repeat the above two steps.
A turn is missed if there is no remainder or if the remainder is already coloured.
The member of the group who colours four numbers horizontally, diagonally or
vertically will be the winner.
