example 2: The total cost of 4 kg of guava is `275.80. What is the cost of 1 kg of guava?
              Solution: Total cost of 4 kg of guava = `275.80 6 8 9 5

                            The cost of 1 kg of guava = `275.80 ÷ 4 4 2 7 5 8 0
                                                            = `68.95 – 2 4

Thus, the cost of 1 kg of guava is 68.95. – 3 5
                                                                                                      3 2
                                                                                                          3 8
                       Think and Answer – 3 6
What is the number which when divided by 28 gives 2 0
                    the same quotient as 75 divided by 0.21 gives? – 2 0
                                                                                                              0
Division of a Decimal Number by another Decimal Number

To divide a decimal number by another decimal number, follow the following steps:
Step 1: First convert the divisor and dividend into a whole number by shifting the decimal
point towards the end of these.

Step 2: If there are different number of digits after the decimal point in divisor or dividend,
then add the required number of zero at the right to make the number of digits
                       equal after the decimal point.

Step 3: Now, divide the numbers as whole numbers. Let us divide 205.5 by 0.15.
There are 2 decimal places in divisor 0.15 and 1 decimal
place in dividend 205.5. So, we have to add 1 zero at the 2 0 5 5 20550
right side in number 205.5 to make same number of digits 0 1 5
                       after decimal point.
So, in 205.5 and 0.15 shift the decimal point 2 places towards the right.

                       Now, divide 20550 by 15 as whole numbers, 20550 = 1370
                                                                              15
              example 3: Divide the following.
                    (a) 7.75 ÷ 0.25 (b) 42.8 ÷ 0.02 (c) 33.725 ÷ 0.25

              Solution: (a) 7.75 ÷ 0.25
There are 2 decimal places in 0.25 and 2 decimal places in 7.75. Shift

the decimal point 2 places towards the right ( ). Then divide as whole
                                 numbers.

                                 7.75 ÷ 0.25 = 775 = 31
                            (b) 42.8 ÷ 0.02 25

There are 2 decimal places in 0.02 and 1 decimal place in 42.8. So, we
have to add 1 zero at the right side in number 42.8 to make same number
of digits after decimal point and shift the decimal point 2 places towards
the right ( ). Then divide as whole numbers.

                                 42.8 ÷ 0.02 = 4280 = 2140
                                                    2
