List objects from your surroundings having following geometrical shapes.
                1. Straight line: ____________, ____________, ____________, ____________

                2. Triangle: ____________, ____________, ____________, ____________

                3. Rectangle: ____________, ____________, ____________, ____________

                4. Circle: ____________, ____________, ____________, ____________

              Basic Geometrical shapes

              plane

Look at your notebook page. What do you observe?

It looks like flat surface, where we can draw triangle, rectangle, square on it. It represents
              a plane.
Thus, we can say that a smooth flat surface which extends endlessly in all the directions is
called a plane. A plane has no boundary.

The surface of a wall, the surface of a paper, the face of a blackboard and the top of a
table are some examples of planes.

We can draw figures such as a triangle, rectangle, circle, etc., in a plane. So, we call them
              plane figures.

              point
Take a sharp pencil or a pointed pen and make a dot on a page of your notebook. It
              represents a point.

A point shows an exact position or location.
A point has no length, breadth or thickness. It is represented by capital letters A
              A, B, C, ..., X, Y, Z.
              line segment

Take a sheet of paper and mark two points A and B on it. A B

Draw few paths from A to B as shown in the adjacent figures.
The shortest path from A to B is called the line segment AB.

It is denoted by AB. We may also call it the line segment BA and A B
              denoted by BA .
The points A and B are called the end points of line segment AB. A B

A line segment has a definite length, which can be measured. A B
