              one line of Symmetry

Some figures have one line of symmetry. Look at the following figures.

                                                                                                  A

                           Isosceles triangle Semicircle Arrow Alphabet
more than one line of Symmetry

Some figures have more than one line of symmetry. Observe the following figures which
have more than one line of symmetry.

A circle has infinite number of lines of symmetry.

                       Think and Answer
Write any five letters of the English alphabet that have no line of symmetry.

              mirror image

When we see an image in the mirror, we see its reflection.

A reflection of an image means to produce its mirror image. Right Left
The mirror line is the line of symmetry between the object and
its mirror image (reflection). The mirror image of a figure or an
object is same but, it appears in the opposite direction.

The mirror image or reflection of a figure can be made using
              a square paper.
If you put a mirror on the line of symmetry, you can get other
half of a symmetrical figure (see adjoining figure).

              reflection Symmetry

If there exists at least one line that divides the objects into two halves such that one half is
the mirror image of the other half (one half is reflective of the other half) then it is called
              reflective symmetry.
